About the Author
Froma P. Roth, Ph.D., is a professor in the department of hearing and speech sciences at the University of Maryland, College Park. She received her bachelor's degree from Hunter College, her master's degree from Queens College, and her doctoral degree from the Graduate Center of the City University of New York. Dr. Roth's current research interests focus on the relationship between oral language development and early reading and writing acquisition, phonological awareness intervention for preschool children with primary speech and language deficits, and language and literacy development in children with cochlear implants.
Colleen K. Worthington, M.S., is director of the speech-language clinic in the department of hearing and speech sciences at the University of Maryland, College Park. She received her bachelor's degree from the University of Maryland and her master's degree from Loyola College, Baltimore. Her primary clinical and research interests include language development, phonology, and the supervisory process, including investigating the effectiveness of commercially available phonological awareness intervention programs.

Many Errors

Today was the first day I used this book and paging through it I started to fall in love. The intervention for adults is extremely useful and considering I am taking the final for Aphasia tomorrow I really could have used this all semester, but will use it in the nursing home this summer. My problem with it is the many errors I found within chapter 3 once I dove in to the material for a final on Thursday. Many charts with /ng/ have typos making the symbol /h/ instead creating two /h/'s within the charts. Table 3-5 on page 115 has the columns mixed up, percentage of occurrence should be the middle header rather than for the right column. This created mass confusion when trying to figure out what the tables were indicating, especially because it is needed for my 100 point final.
Overall I would say great content, poor editing. Better know your "stuff" so that you can pick out the errors.

Not as helpful as I had hoped

I guess I'd say this book is not quite basic enough for my needs right now as a student doing my first practicum. I'll probably go back to it later, but right now what I need is "practicum for dummies"! Also, it has limited examples and suggested ideas for each disorder. I recommend Survival Guide for the Beginning Speech-Language Clinician and Clinical Methods And Practicum In Speech-Language Pathology (Singular Textbook Series). I've found these two to have good basics.

Great resource

I hesitated buying the newest edition based on the cost, but am glad I spend the extra $$. Highly recommended for both SLPs and SLPAs. There can never be enough resources out there for therapy ideas and approaches. Do yourself (and those you provide speech therapy services for) a favor and get this manual. You won't be sorry.
