Review
"Outrageous and refreshingly inventive, with a lady in distress, an available rogue, and a marriage of convenience for all. Justiss encapsulates the period, language and mores of the Regency era with great skill."
--Marie Ferrar,RT Magazine, 4 stars

From the Author
The Rake to Ruin Her is the first in a series of romance novels set in the English Regency that feature four cousins dubbed, by a disapproving schoolmaster at Eton, "The Ransleigh Rogues." Book One tells the tale of Max Ransleigh, earl's son and natural leader of the group.Book Two, The Rake to Redeem Her, is the story of Max's illegitimate cousin Will, who was reclaimed as a child after years on the streets of one of London's most infamous rookeries.Books Three and Four, to be published in 2014, feature Alastair, the poet hardened against love by the betrayal of his former fiancee and Dom, the man's man who must rebuild his life after losing an arm at Waterloo.Friends and allies since childhood, the four find their lives transformed by war, scandal, and the love of one exceptional woman.Though I've written linked novels about friends and family before, I was intrigued to examine the relationship between four very different cousins who bond together as children, survive the Peninsular War and Waterloo, and return to England to take up their lives. How does the experience change them, and what sort of woman would be their match?

About the Author
Long before embarking on romantic adventures of her own, Julia Justiss read about them, transporting herself tosuch favourite venues as ancient Egypt, World War II submarine patrols, the Old South and, of course, Regency England. Soon she was keeping notebooks for jotting down story ideas. When not writing or traveling, she enjoys watching movies, reading and puttering about in the garden trying to kill off more weeds than flowers.

Very good story
By Sandy Milan
I also couldn't put this book down until I'd finished it from cover to cover. As the previous reviewer summarized, the h is not particularly glamourous or worldly and isn't very young either (25). She is used to running her father's horse stud and would like to continue without the bother of marrying or getting involved in the Ton. Her stepmother is keen to marry her off and insists she goes with her and her stepsister to a house party. There she meets the H, who has a terrible reputation. He had been involved in a terrible scandal when working for the war office and had come home in disgrace. She comes up with a scheme that he should ruin her so that she can go back to the farm and get on with her life, without having to marry. The H rejects her proposal but he is intrigued by her. Unfortunately because she's an heiress, a fortune hunter tries to compromise her forcefully and the H intervenes to save her, thus compromising her himself when they are discovered and he is comforting the h. She refuses his honourable offer of marriage and goes back to her farm. As a result of the scandal her trustees decide to sell off the stud and she is forced to ask the H for his help. This results in them marrying. In addition to all of the other complications in the story, all the females on the h's side of the family tend to die in childbirth and she is terrified of falling pregnant.

I would have given this story 5 stars except for the annoying issue of "the curse" that involved the h's female family dying in childbirth. I'm not sure it was entirely necessary to the story and I think their love story could have developed through her pregnancy quite naturally without throwing that into the mix. Anyway it still was a wonderful read, which I can recommend most highly.

Had it's moments
By Shell Seeker
Oh my, here I am again, the lone dissenter.

I thoroughly liked the first part of this book and think it displays the talent of the writer. The hero and heroines back storys where very well written and their meeting and marriage quite interesting. There after though it seemed to lack any depth. It was an enjoyable book but I think there was a lost potential for the story. The story seemed to settle into mediocrity after the beginning.

The return of the heroine's childhood friend and the man she always thought she would marry would have been a much better basis for the angst between heroine and hero, than the family "curse". The curse was the heroine's fear of childbirth and family history of women dying while giving birth. Personally I think that would have made a better back plot, with the boyfriends return the main stumbling block in the road for the main characters.

The sex scenes were explicit and lengthy, and while I have nothing against sex scenes, I don't like them when they seem over extended to just take up space and pages. I do realize that a lot will not agree with me on this. Lol

I sound entirely negative, and I am not. It was an entertaining, quick read. I just thought it missed a chance at being......something more.

4 1/2 Stars ~ Excellent Georgian era historical romance
By Ace Reader
'Well,' he said unsteadily a few moments later, 'that was certainly worth the bargain.'

All Caroline wants out of life is to run her stud farm. Caro's beloved father's passing has been hard on her. Now an orphan and soul heir to his vast and rich estate, she dreams of nothing but finishing the work they had started together breeding horses on their stud farm.

She fears "The Curse". It took the life of her own mother when she was born and killed many other young women in Caroline's family line. It scares the devil out of her. She believes it will get her if she marries. Because of her fear and not wanting to test the power of the curse, Caroline does not want to get married. Then she meets Max and her life is changed forever. Through no fault of her own she finds herself married to him and faced with her terrible dilemma. She knows she must consummate her union with her husband, which she fears will then lead to her death.

Caroline is thrilled by her new husband. Max is dangerous to Caro. Especially when he's touching her. Max is physically appealing, kind and thoughtful. Max is one arousing delicious man. Max tests Caroline's will when it comes to their relationship. Caro knows that if he would try to coerce her it would be so much easier to resist him. Instead he promises never to hurt her, and lets her decide the pace of their new intimacy together. She burns for his touch. Conceiving a child and testing the power of the Curse dose't lessen Max's hold over her. She fears his potent effect on her. She's a horse woman. She loves her stud farm. It's her life. Will she make room in her life for Max? Can she afford to fall in love with the man who may cause her doom?

Read this excellent entertaining unputdownable book. This story is wonderful in every way you can imagine! If you love romances, you will love this book. You won't be sorry. Highly recommended and a keeper. Enjoy!
