Celtic Knotwork Borders in Repeating Sections is a collection of original Celtic knotwork border designs presented in a way that's meant to allow artists the freedom to create knotwork borders in virtually any size, and practically any shape, that they want.

The book uses a modular system in which a border design is reduced to either two or five straight sections, plus a variety of arc sections with different numbers of repeats around a full circle.

These sections are meant to be rotated as needed to form square, rectangular, or circular borders for use in your work.

Not only are there straight and corner sections for each pattern, but every one of them also includes circle sections in several numbers of repeats around a full circle.

Half of the designs also feature "inner border" variations. These are designed to branch inward from the main borders with T sections, and the inner borders can cross in the middle of the border with the provided crosspieces.

The book's approach is based on the author's experience of more than 25 years. It's intended to teach you to think about repeating patterns in a way that'll improve your own work - the idea is that the mechanical task of laying out a border should be streamlined, leaving you free to concentrate on the much more creative work of painting, carving, or dyeing it.

The text includes ideas on how to scale the patterns - they're printed here in many sizes, but it's inevitable that you'll want more - and that, and other information, is given for both digital and traditional artists.

You can use these designs in any way you like for your own work. You're completely free to sell that work, or reproductions of that work. You just aren't allowed to make a clip art collection out of them, or otherwise reproduce the pattern sections alone in a form that others can use.

George Bain for the 21st Century

I started doing knotwork from George Bain's excellent book over 35 years ago. Brad Schenck's book builds that up and extends it immeasurably. It introduces all sorts of ways to add additional flair and flavor to the knotwork, as well as hints that make complex layouts easier to craft.

If you're doing Celtic style art, or just want to add some Celtic flair to your Pre-Raphaelite or Art Nouveau style work, you need this book.

Even if you're just a dabbler, like me. :)

Good book that focuses on composition

Schenck has written a good book that deals with designing knotwork panels. The subject of the book is composition. Anyone looking for a book on how to draw the knotwork units that make up the more complex panels will not find how to do that here. The author supplies the units of design and shows how they can be combined into square, rectangular and circular panels.

I have been studying and drawing knotwork for many years and still found many things in Schenck's book that are insightful and thought provoking. For me that makes a good book on this subject.

About the Author
Michael Cummings is the author and coauthor of a number of widely used college textbooks, including BIOLOGY: SCIENCE AND LIFE; CONCEPTS OF GENETICS; GENETICS: A MOLECULAR PERSPECTIVE; ESSENTIALS OF GENETICS; HUMAN HEREDITY; and HUMAN GENETICS AND SOCIETY. He has also written articles on aspects of genetics for the McGraw-Hill Encyclopedia of Science and Technology and has published a newsletter on advances in human genetics for instructors and students. He received his Ph.D. in Biological Sciences from Northwestern University. His doctoral work, conducted in the laboratory of Dr. R.C. King, centered on ovarian development in Drosophila melanogaster. After a year on the faculty at Northwestern, he moved to the University of Illinois at Chicago, where for many years he held teaching and research positions. In 2003, he joined the faculty in the Department of Biology at the Illinois Institute of Technology, and currently holds the title of Research Professor. His current research interests involve the organization of DNA sequences in the short-arm and centromere region of human chromosome 21. He is engaged in a collaborative effort to construct a physical map of this region of chromosome 21 for the purpose of exploring molecular mechanisms of chromosome interactions. At the undergraduate level, he has focused on teaching genetics, human genetics for non-majors, and general biology to majors and non-majors. He has received awards given by the university faculty for outstanding teaching, has twice been voted by graduating seniors as the best teacher in their years on campus, and has received several teaching awards from student organizations.

A really good book that explains, in understandable terms, the principles of heredity. Many examples are used and can be researched to help the reader better understand the topic at hand.

Easy required read

This is a required text for my genetics class, however I feel like it's my easiest read for the semester. The author does a good job of providing clinical case studies related to concepts covered in each chapter and has excellent summary tables and figures. Also, the additional online questions are an excellent study aid. This book is expensive for the actual size but amazon had the best deal around.

Wade Davenport receives an odd phone call. An old girlfriend needs his help. Even with all the years that have passed between them, she still has a way of making it hard to refuse her anything. Sadly, he sees that her Evangeline persona has pretty much buried the young woman he used to know.

fun, entertainging read and a HEA for the dress!!

I loved this fifth and final book in the "dress" series. It was really a great story. The poor dress went through a lot before it got its own walk down the aisle. Evangeline had some good life lessons as she desperately tries to save her business that has been cursed! Evangeline is not a very likable person however, her other self, Gabby, is very likable. Confused? You have to read this book to find out all the goodies!!1

I loved Wade. What a hunk of a hero. What a sweet guy and how lucky is she?

The dress finds its bride and at last the magic happens. A good example of everything happening for a reason and sometimes negative things can turn into very positive endings. This was so very good. I believe it is my favorite in the series. I didn't think I was going to like Evangeline but by the end I did. I definitely recommend this book. It is a good stand alone story or as the final in the series. All were good reads, fun and entertaining.

Very rarely does an author keep readers entertained enough to read an entire series that could also be read as stand alone books. This is one such series. Taking a chance on the first book really paid off as the stories were all entertaining and I couldn't put the stories down.

I love the quirky and the unique. I believe in UFOs, ghosts, and that we have a moon station on the dark side of the moon. lol I have a wonderful son and DIL who have been kind enough (after much badgering and hinting around) to give me three lovely grandchildren. I'm a very young grandma ;-) I've loved reading since I was a little girl although just about every book I ever read I rewrote in my mind. After a while I decided to just start writing my own books. My best friend dared me to send one in, so I did and to my surprise it was accepted. I love books that make you laugh, cry, sit on the edge of your chair in fear that the couple won't work it out, and then finally cheer for them when they do. I'm a true believer in a happy ending and won't read a book or watch a movie that ends any other way. I write every day but I always find time to spend with my family and friends as well as my hobbies (cooking, gardening, traveling, and ceramics). My personal motto is "Regret is a wasted emotion." Live well and happy reading.

You're hot and you're cold...

Valan nearly ruined a great book. The writing is good, the editing has minimal problems and overall, it's an enjoyable sci-fi read. Except for the hero, which is big problem. He is likable in general. You want to understand him. You cheer him on to improve and you want them to work it out. Let's face it, amongst our angst, we want the happy ending. But he is abusive to her. *Spoilers* Leads her on a leash through town, keeps her locked in the house, dresses her in prisoner clothes, shocks her with the arm bands enough that she almost loses their children, uses her for sex then kicks her out of bed, tells her he doesn't love her and she is for his pleasure. We can wrap it up pretty, excuse it by saying it's an alien tradition/culture but this goes beyond that, IMO. In parts, it made me stop reading and lose the flow of the story because I was processing how he could treat her so cruelly. The writing would then draw me back in before, again, abruptly dumping me into an uncomfortable sense of disbelief at his next level of emotional and/or physical abuse. He wasn't a complete lost cause and did have redeeming qualities. We get that he's conflicted but...hey!? What about her? I just felt he could be dominating, alpha, etc without alienating some of the readers. I will try Book 2 as I like the writing style of this author, but I hope the hero is a more mature, less self centered, better version of Valan.

Valan's Bondmate

I was given an ARC by the author in exchange for an honest review. I have been a fan of Mardi Maxwell for a while, but I always strayed away from the sci-fi genre because I couldn’t see myself enjoying it but because I have great faith and love for Mardi’s writing style I accepted the challenge and I am so thankful I did. For readers who are on the fence about sci-fi, this author gives you a complete run down in the beginning of the book regarding the terms and time frames used. You have a brief history of the situation and then as your progress into the story, you will be so captivated by the plot and characters, the fear of sci-fi rapidly disappears.

Valan could be considered a real demon, but as you begin to understand you and the situation he was in, I think readers will embrace him as I did. He lost a great deal due to a group of barbarians and he wants revenge. When he learns that the only way he will be able to stay alive is to mate with a woman from that group, he was willing to die instead. His father still remained determined to live after the heartbreak and pave the way for his son to mate and live as well. If Valan refuses, he will not only die, he will lose his warrior status. As demanded he and his other members invaded this enemy territory and kidnapped the women who were destined to be the new mates for the Zarronians. His mate was a beautiful young woman named Lia.

Being woken up in the middle of the night and realizing she have been ripped from her home and taken to the enemy camp should have terrified her, but instead Valan saved her life. As Lia’s tribe’s tradition was, the sire can have as many women as he cares to have and the females are not treated with respect. Lia’s sire had sold her to the worst man in the community, one who enjoys punishing his girls in public and not caring if they die or not. Lia was going to be Gorm’s as soon as the cycle permitted so when she found herself mated to Valan, she was given a new chance at life. Unfortunately Valan wasn’t very nice in the beginning, he saw her as a part of the reason he lost everything.

The best part of the story is when Lia tells Valan about her life before he took her and shows us how Valan’s heart begins to struggle between need to protect her and the urge to get his revenge. There are some steamy scenes that will have you grabbing some ice water and fanning yourself off. Along with that, we see Lia as she accepts her new life and role as his mate. The question is, will Valan finally release his need for revenge and allow his life to become full of happiness and love before Lia’s past life will come back and take her back to what she was desperate to escape. I really enjoyed this book and can hardly wait to read book 2. I am so thankful I took a chance at sci-fi because Mardi Maxwell could make me a fan with stories like this one.

Hated it. Wow talk about abusive imprisonment. Who gets off on that? 50% thru and I'm actually sickened by this character. The guy tortures her and shortly afterwards she's feeling guilty for hurting him while fighting off. WTF!!!

About the Author
My unstructured upbringing, and cares to the wind attitude, led to my frequent incarceration, from childhood to adulthood, it's a disturbing story, which is primarily aimed at the adult reading audience, who enjoy reading about reality situations and crime. I have always been a reader, and to a large extent, that helped me become a self taught person. Born on the banks of the Colorado River in Arizona, and raised up in the Marcos De Niza barrio projects in South Phoenix, I experienced the injustices of the cotton fields, Maricopa County Juvenile Detention Home, and Arizona State Industrial School at Fort Grant, Arizona. I wandered the desperate streets of Los Angeles, and the forlorn railroad tracks, alone, like a lost person without a purpose in life. I was locked up in the jails of Phoenix, and Los Angeles, before winding up in the California State penitentiary system. Upon my release, I struggled to stay out of the pen, and took the jobs that society at large would never want to take. Through numerous personal tragedies, incarcerations, and unfortunate circumstances, I lost control of my life. No one was ever able to change my destructive behavior. The changes when they occurred came from within me, when I could no longer cope, with the situations I had cast myself into. Looking back, I can now see what I couldn't see, during those hopeless time periods. I was very fortunate, to finally be able to leave that life behind me, through relationships that believed in me, and successfully worked, and built myself a civil service work career, from which I retired. I now spend my days enjoying life's simple pleasures, after all my previous tragic missteps. My objective in life now, is to become an accomplished writer.

REVIEW: MY LIFE INSIDE OUT by Angelo R. Avila Jr.

I found that after completing this book, that I could just randomly open the book and find an interesting situation in the authors story. The author overcame termendous obstacles to obtain a responsible position and lead a very respectfull life. It was intreteresting from cover to cover and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys crime stories.
