As a professional digital demigod, I spend a lot of�time walking the line between public and private. However,�there is only so much that can be communicated through 140 characters or a six-minute vlog. In this book, I’m sharing stories from my life that have taken longer to process, in the hope that maybe it will help you do some internal processing of your own.

These are tales of family, faith, mental health, LESBIAN SEX, and my ongoing journey to love myself (and not just my selfies). Though sometimes dark, these stories might make you laugh and cry, and hopefully they’ll motivate you to take the time and space you need to fully load.

Because in spite of our world of constant output and expression, it’s important to let yourself buffer at your own rate.

If you could only read one series on history

Durant is the eminent historian philosopher, This requires a massive investment in time to read the 11 volumes in the series - The Story of Civilization. Reading this series has taught me to try to see things in a larger perspective, unity and time. I give the same rating to the entire series. However, if you don't have time, I suggest you read instead the very short volume, the Lessons of History.

Each volume of Will and Ariel Durant's "The Story of Civilization" is more than a survey of the geopolitical scene. It includes the intellectual and cultural history, religious history, the arts, and the literature of the age as well. The "Age of Napoleon," the last of the eleven-volume work, covers a fairly small number of years of European history. But these were most significant years. The Durants describe the years of the French revolution and the rise and eventual fall of Napoleon in detail. Excellent book on an interesting photo printing technique

I've had this book for quite a few years. It's a really good reference and instructional book on how to do gum bichromate printing for black and white negatives.
Normal photographic printing is done on silver bromide paper; the photosensitive silver crystals make the black of the print. In gum bichromate printing, chromate is used in a gum emulsion mixed with colored pigments to harden under light exposure. (I'm trying to stay away from the chemistry here.) After making a negative to use for contact printing, the negative and coated paper are exposed to light. Where light penetrates your negative, the gum-chromate-pigment mixture hardens and stays on the paper. Where not exposed to light, the solution washes away.
This isn't an easy technique, but is a very lovely one, and even more interesting when mixed with other techniques like cyanotype. It's also possible now to use laser printer to produce some of the contact negatives you need.
The only caveat I must add is that chromium compounds are TOXIC. So if you are not experienced at handling chemicals, this technique is NOT for you and your home darkroom. However, if you have experience in good lab technique and know your way around a darkroom, this is a very alluring technique to make some wonderfully, almost hand-colored looking prints. This fits in especially well with the current interest people have in handmade books and journals.

Wonderful guide

This book is a wonderful guide to those experienced photographers who are looking for something "new" to try. As mentioned, it is not an exacting process; there's a lot of trial and error involved. It is also important to note that the chemicals (ammonium or potassium dichromate) are dangerous. They can be ordered through The Photographer's Formulary. Mr. Scopick's directions are not overly scientific but will help you on your way to understanding this relatively simple non-silver process. When done correctly, these prints are totally archival.

It is a gorgeous printing process. You won't get the tonal scale of a platinum print, but you can choose any pigment color you want, which is great. You can also do multiple prints of the same neg using different colors for a polychromatic print. It's a fun and rewarding process for anyone rediscovering the Pictoralist look.

Ordering for second time

I love this book! I'm a 4th year medical student and I have 3 other texts on immunology and this is the one that I keep going back to. I loaned it to a friend and it burned in a fire so here I am ordering it again. The text is simple and to the point. The diagrams are suitable and I found them detailed enough. This is my bedtime reading book.

An outstanding introduction to the principles of immunology.

This book, with good color graphics and easy to understand
descriptions of immunological processes, is the best
introduction to the field that I have read. It is clearly
written and all of the information is presented in language
that informs rather than confuses the reader. The
authors do a very good job of balancing the conflicting
demands of scientific rigor and readability. At the end of
the book, I felt that I had a firm grasp of the principles
of immunology and the knowledge to approach more advanced
and technical works. I highly recommend the book to anyone
interested in developing a firm understanding of the basic
science of immunology.

This book is a great introduction to immunology. Many other immunology books have too much information to absorb, but this book is as brief as possible without sacrificing clarity. I especially liked the review questions and ample references at the end of each chapter.

This book is terrible. Constantly having to flip through pages to reference figures and equations as the author continually makes reference to stuff several pages back with Figure #s. And to be honest, to study this book on your own and actually understand it probably requires a PHD.

The erudite Lerer, whose Inventing English (2007) was enthusiastically reviewed in these pages, has now undertaken an ambitious, one-volume history of children’s literature. He begins in classical antiquity and ends with the salutary likes of Weetzie Bat (1989) and the Time Warp Trio, giving particular attention along the way—he being a philologist—to the language of literature, whether critical or narrative. Always in search of large ideas and overarching themes, he has what many may find an annoying tendency to pronounce (“The book now ends with bedtime—as all great children’s stories really do”) and to presume his reader’s tacit agreement, offering far too many propositions beginning “How can we not . . .” Nevertheless, Lerer does an extraordinary job of expanding our understanding of individual titles by richly contextualizing them in the world of their creation and stimulates readers’ imaginations by some surprising juxtapositions (Darwin and Dr. Seuss!). A Wealth Of Scholarship And Interest

I love to read and reread classic children's literature, ancient and modern. Seth Lerer has provided a highly scholarly but extremely accessible and enjoyable work on its history. I had some misgivings in purchasing this, because in my experience too much analysis can kill even the most fervent attachment. But I realized I had nothing to fear when I found chapter after chapter of absorbing information. I learned so much that I never knew about old favorites like Aesop's fables, and found so many unexpected connections, like the link between Charles Darwin and Dr. Seuss!

In a work covering such a broad field and span of time much must be summarized or barely touched upon. I would have loved to have read more about Harriet the Spy, for example. But this book was a delight to read and will be a treasure to keep and refer to again and again.

This text provides an introduction to the numerical solution of initial and boundary value problems in ordinary differential equations on a firm theoretical basis. This book strictly presents numerical analysis as a part of the more general field of scientific computing. Important algorithmic concepts are explained down to questions of software implementation. For initial value problems, a dynamical systems approach is used to develop Runge-Kutta, extrapolation, and multistep methods. For boundary value problems including optimal control problems, both multiple shooting and collocation methods are worked out in detail.
Graduate students and researchers in mathematics, computer science, and engineering will find this book useful. Chapter summaries, detailed illustrations, and exercises are contained throughout the book with many interesting applications taken from a rich variety of areas.
